An Alternative way of interfacing a low output moving coil with your phono stage is with a pick up head-Amplifier, this is not a phono stage but an electronic gain stage designed to add a few Db to the tiny MC signal.

It is an alternative method to a SUT (step up transformer) and interestingly a method championed by many influential  personalities in the Hi Fi world.
